| Freddie Mac Is Going To Give The Unemployed A Break |

Freddie Mac, a quasi-government agency announced two days ago that it will allow the unemployed up to a 12-month forbearance on their mortgage payments. Freddie Mac will allow mortgage services to extend 6 months of forbearance without approval and up to 12 months with their approval.

Good news or bad news? If you look closely at the way the unemployment rate is being calculated, it defies common sense. The number of people who “dropped out” of the labor force is not being included in the unemployment rate calculation. This means that when the “drop outs” are excluded from the calculation the unemployment rate appears to be lower since the universe of the workforce is smaller.
